Agbar joins in the celebration of World Water Day on the coming 22 March, focused this year on the water-energy nexus, by setting up a minisite with information related to this issue. On clicking here, you will find a schedule with the activities that the operating companies will carry out on the occasion of this event and news related to the water and energy sector. Also, using a Twitter widget, you will be able to follow the publications concerning water and energy and hashtags such as #WorldWaterDay, #IWD2014 and #UnWater, among others.
At the same time, the minisite offers solutions and technologies developed by the group and related to the water-energy nexus, such as the performance of energy audits in complete water cycle facilities, sectored smart metering, which allows clients to monitor consumption and manage incident alarms in their facilities, and the management of aeration systems to improve energy efficiency, among others.
The minisite thus promotes the Group’s commitment to the water-energy nexus and will remain active after World Water Day, as its contents will be updated throughout the year.
A celebration which goes back to 1993
The idea to create World Water Day arose during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from 3 to 14 June 1992. Then, on 22 December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/47/193 designating 22 March of each year as World Water Day, to be held starting from 1993.
Since then, each year this day has focused on a specific issue. Thus, for example, last year the United Nations General Assembly declared 2013, in its resolution A/RES/65/154, as “International Year of Water Cooperation” in the framework of the Millennium Development Goals which, in relation to water, mainly affect access to this resource and to sanitation.
