Agbar participated in a meeting with businesspeople from the technological sphere organized by the Digital Cluster of Barcelona Digital, in which the company’s innovation model was presented. In this respect, Agbar’s Director of Business Innovation and Opportunities, Fernando Rayón, explained that the current profound technological, economic and social changes require the company to have a firm commitment to strengthening its activities through “disruptive innovation”, focusing on three basic spheres: the environment, smart cities and the balance between water, energy and food.
During his talk, Rayón also highlighted the agreement between Agbar and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) for co-investment in Spanish technology-based companies through the Vento venture capital fund. “Our idea is to help start-ups to grow”, he pointed out. “We look for companies which have developed a product which is focused on water, the environment, energy and smart cities”. This fund has already invested in companies such as Seinon, Hydromodel and Carriot. “We investigate new spheres, new markets and new cultures and, at the same time as we help these companies to grow, they provide us with inspiration for new ideas. It is very good for us to engage with enquiring and enterprising people. For us it is essential to form part of the new digital, entrepreneurship and collaborative economy ecosystems in an open and natural manner”, he added.
Fernando Rayón also showed the attendees the latest digital initiatives developed by Agbar, such as the creation of the iBeach and Plantastic apps, focused on public service. “As a company we think about the city, and we will continue to propose useful new developments for the citizens”.
