Locating and compiling information about 18,000 beaches is a painstaking and large-scale task and, therefore, Agbar trusted in the services of Specialisterne, a social company which employs people with high-functioning autism or Asperger syndrome and which provides computer and data processing services. These people tend to have a high power of concentration, tenacity and intolerance of mistakes, allowing them to tackle this kind of project with huge precision.
The General Manager of Specialisterne in Spain, Francesc Sistach, explains the development of the project: “Our consultants, who have been diagnosed with autism or Asperger syndrome, devoted months to obtaining or capturing all the details and the images necessary and to transforming them and uploading them onto the app, with results as regards quality and performance which demonstrate that, with adequate training and support, people with autism and Asperger can perform data and image processing or management tasks in the IT sector, and software tests, in a brilliant manner”.
New version of iBeach
Agbar presents the new version of iBeach, a free app available for Android and iOS which provides extensive information on the 3,500 beaches of Spain and the up to 18,000 beaches of southern Europe. For each beach, iBeach includes its location, photos, marine forecasting and, when possible, also the colour of the flag, the water quality and the presence of jellyfish. With the new version of iBeach, it is thus possible to find the most hidden coves, beaches protected from the wind or with a low influx of tourists and, in short, everything necessary to select the beaches to suit the taste of each individual.
