The Agbar Group will transfer its headquarters to a rented building situated in district 38 of Zona Franca, and will leave the Agbar Tower, which will be converted into a hotel after being acquired by Emin Capital.
In accordance with the provisions of the rental agreement signed this morning, the aim of the change, which will take place progressively until May 2015, is to help to adapt to new times, which require the organization of activities in a decentralized manner, optimizing costs, improving efficiency and guaranteeing sustainability.
The new headquarters will be temporary, as the Group is studying the location of a future corporate headquarters in Barcelona which will contribute to the architectural individuality of the city, where it was established almost one and a half centuries ago.
This transfer forms part of a decisive commitment to networking, permanent communication, decentralization of activities and the continuous improvement of efficiency, instead of the traditional concentration of services and activities in a single corporate headquarters. The Group companies devoted to urban water cycle management and solutions & technologies will thus be located in more appropriate environments for their activity.
In accordance with the plans of Barcelona City Council, the location of the future corporate headquarters will contribute to the development and promotion of new urban areas, as already occurred with the Agbar Tower in the 22@ district. Apart from its specific characteristics, it will be a “smart”, sustainable, eco-efficient building, open to the citizens and participatory.
Barcelona’s Agbar Tower has been acquired by the investment company Emin Capital. The building will become a hotel run by the Hyatt group. This American chain has hotels in other cities around the world, the one in Barcelona being the fifth in Europe, after Moscow, Paris, Berlin and Cannes. The rest are in the cities such as New York, Istanbul, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, Nassau and Beijing.
The Tower, which was inaugurated in 2005, has contributed to the Agbar Group’s global image, in line with the growing international presence of the city of Barcelona. Since then, Agbar has been transformed into a global water services and technologies company, going from exclusively infrastructure management to knowledge management. It is now a global benchmark in the sector, with a presence in 22 countries, such as Spain, Chile, United Kingdom, Mexico, Colombia, Algeria, Peru, Brazil, Turkey, United States, and others.
