Returning the treated water to the natural environment

In fulfilment of the requirements of European regulations concerning the return of treated water to the natural environment, Agbar promotes and develops water regeneration projects which have become points of reference.

Starting from an analysis of the quality of the initial water and of the treated water, in relation to health conditions, chemical composition and production regime, Agbar designs water regeneration solutions with due guarantees of supply, storage and distribution.

The technological water regeneration solutions can consist of disinfection treatments (using chlorination, UV rays, lagooning or infiltration-percolation, among others) or membrane treatments (reverse osmosis, reverse electrodialysis or nanofiltration, among others).

Highlighted Projects

  • Cowama: bathing water quality control (Sitges, Barcelona)

     (Sitges, Barcelona. Spain)

The control system offers a new sign of quality for the town’s beaches which, in turn, allows the main sources of pollution to be identified. If there is pollution, or a risk of pollution, the system will define the nature, frequency and possible duration of the episode.

The project includes a warning system using sensors which will allow a bathing water quality forecast to be made, and also allow the citizens to be informed about the state of the water in real time and on the Internet.
