R&D&I

Agbar laboratories Agbar laboratories

Agbar considers that R&D&I is a key and strategic element allowing it to confront the challenges presented by water management from numerous viewpoints. Agbar has always been involved in innovation and, over the years, this link has resulted in initiatives such as CETaqua, the CÉNIT and R+i Alliance projects which, jointly, amount to 20.3 million euros of investment in R&D&I.

The improvement in efficiency, the reduction in the operating risk and the development of new management technologies are some of the values provided by innovation in the field of the complete water cycle and of the environment in general. Moreover, at the same time, the commitment to innovation strengthens the commitment to offer the best service to all citizens.

  • CETaqua

CETaqua is a benchmark technology centre in the sphere of water research. Its objective is to propose innovative solutions to companies, to society and to the administrations. The aim of the innovations promoted by CETaqua is to offer solutions to environmental and technological problems related to the complete water cycle.

CETaqua began its activities in 2007 as a private foundation whose trustees are Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

  • CÉNIT Programme

Agbar participates in two CÉNIT programmes: Sostaqua and SOST-CO2. The Sostaqua project, in which Agbar is the leader, was created to develop technologies intended to make the urban water cycle more sustainable. For its part, SOST-CO2 is a specific project which seeks new industrial uses for CO2.

Both projects form part of the state CÉNIT (National Strategic Consortia for Technical Research) programme, conceived to coordinate the financing of major industrial research projects of a strategic nature, with a broad scientific-technical scope, and which have potential for international influence.
