Tonight the Agbar Tower will show the European Union’s official commemorative message in four languages on the occasion of Europe Day, which is held every 9 May to coincide with Robert Schuman’s declaration in 1950, which laid the foundations for a united and peaceful Europe following the Second World War.

A few decades later, and in recognition of the importance of Schuman’s declaration, it was agreed during the Milan Summit of EU Heads of State and Government in 1985 to commemorate the 9 May as Europe Day. To celebrate this anniversary, Agbar’s corporate headquarters will show today, between 9 p.m. and midnight, the official commemorative message of the EU in four languages, on which it will be possible to read: “European Union: united in diversity”, as well as an animation with the European colours and flag.

With this initiative, the Agbar Tower continues with its calendar of original illuminations which it wants to offer to the citizens of Barcelona, and which will coincide with different significant dates from the calendar: for example, World Environment Day, on 5 June, and the Festival of La Mercè, on 24 September.

The Agbar Tower, the headquarters of the company that gives it its name, the leader in Spain in the complete water cycle and one of the big Spanish multinational companies, has a height of 142 metres. With 31 spacious floors without columns, each with a clear height of 2.60 metres, and with a total surface area of the building of 39,000 square metres, it has 4,500 windows all around the perimeter of the façade which can be lit up by the same number of lamps, using a LED system.
